Choose between p4 or p5

Hello. i have left two optional papers to choose. I am considering go P7 and P4 or P7/P5. If anyone have experience in choosing these papers, please share with me. I have attempted all fundamental papers, my marks in F5 and f9 are almost similar, and i dont have any priority to choose one of them. I know P5 has very low pass rates, and P4 also has lots of numerical calculation.

I did the combination P5/P7. I passed P7 at first attempt but is having a struggle with P5. This will be my 3rd attempt. The content of P5 is not difficult to study but understanding the examiner and time management is where my issue lies... I failed with 47. The examiner sets fair papers so it's not impossible to pass this paper. I hope this helps.

If you are better in discursive than calculations I would advise you to go for P5 which has less calculations than P4.

Have you taken your P3 yet?
I just sat and passed P5 first time with a really good mark (although the pass rate was only 38%) and I found that a lot of the base was from the P3. Many of the theories used were already covered in P3 so it cut down on the 'new' knowledge needed.
Also there are lots of podcasts for P5 on iTunes which if you listen to them over and over again really help. The low pass rate (I believe) is due to not reading the question properly - a question repeated in numerous sittings (including mine) was about the effectiveness of a given report in providing the information needed to managers. Apparently people fail as they launch straight into evaluating the financial performance of company based on the report, rather than the report itself - i.e. does it tell the managers information that can help them in decision making; is it clear etc. The fact that there are podcasts specifically on these types of questions, and that they have been repeated in may sittings tells me that students still aren't answering the question asked. The podcasts really help to understand these issues. Maybe have a listen before you decide.
I have no knowledge of the other options you are looking at, as I am struggling to decide myself between P6 & P7 for my final exam, but if you did well and are happy with the P3 syllabus (and doing very few calculations) P5 may be the way to go :-)

I'm faced with the same decision. Based on my performance in P1 and P3, I will not be taking P5 as these discursive papers have given me great grief. P4 it is.

@Yu Yang would be great if you can also share some P4 materials with me. Thank you

choose P5 which is great. I will resit in Sept. this time should be ok. a bit of theory/bookwork and some common sense will do definitely.

I suppose it depends on what area of accountancy you want to take. If you want to take the practice route then go for tax and audit. If you want to take the industry route then go for finance management and performance management. I am not upto those papers yet but I would imagine they are equally hard as hard as each other.

Hi, I’ll be starting to build a series of exam revision videos for the papers that seem to have a low pass rate.
I’ve started with paper P5 at the moment, but viewers tell me I should probably do the F level papers first, especially paper F5.

So after I’ve completed my current project video, I’ll move on to the paper F5.

I’ve tried my best to make it as short as possible, and for writing, included a skeleton answer (which you could write to earn essential marks), as well as a full answer based on that.

anyways, please take a look and let me know what you think. Thanks!
